Adubação verde em pomar cítrico Rev. Bras. Frutic.
Ragozo,Carlos Renato Alves; Leonel,Sarita; Crocci,Adalberto José.

Advances in apple culture worldwide Rev. Bras. Frutic.
Robinson,Terence.
Over the last 60 years, planting densities for apple have increased as improved management systems have been developed. Dwarfing rootstocks have been the key to the dramatic changes in tree size, spacing and early production. The Malling series of dwarfing rootstocks (M.9 and M.26) have been the most important dwarfing rootstocks in the world but are poorly adapted in some areas of the world and they are susceptible to the bacterial disease fire blight and the soil disease complex, apple replant disease which limits their uses in some areas. Rootstock breeding programs in several parts of the world are developing improved rootstocks with resistance to fire blight, and replant disease, and improved cold hardiness and yield efficiency. A second important...

Advances in Coconut palm propagation Rev. Bras. Frutic.
Lédo,Ana da Silva; Passos,Edson Eduardo Melo; Fontes,Humberto Rolemberg; Ferreira,Joana Maria Santos; Talamini,Viviane; Vendrame,Wagner A..
Abstract Coconut palm (Cocos nucifera L.) is one of the most important tropical species used by man, known as “tree of life”. In recent decades, with the expansion of coconut growing areas, limitations such as the occurrence of pests, uniformity of crops, adaptation to different ecosystems and others have affected the production and longevity of coconut trees. This review describes the major advances in propagation techniques of coconut palm, conventionally, by seeds and through plant tissue culture techniques from the mid-twentieth century onwards, as well as phytosanitary aspects that should be considered to mitigate the spread of pests and diseases.

Advances in fruit crop propagation in Brazil and worldwide-apple trees Rev. Bras. Frutic.
Petri,José Luiz; Hawerroth,Fernando José; Fazio,Gennaro; Francescatto,Poliana; Leite,Gabriel Berenhauser.
Abstract Apple production has been an important economic activity worldwide. The wide dissemination and cultivation of apple trees in several regions of the world is due to the development of propagation techniques from its domestication to the present time. Apple trees can be propagated by seeds, restricted to the use in breeding programs, and multiplied by several methods of vegetative propagation, both for rootstocks and apple scion cultivars. Considering the high technological level currently used in apple crop management, plant propagation plays a very important role in order to enable seedling production with high morphological quality and free of diseases, requiring new advances and propagation improvements in new releases of rootstocks and apple...

PEREIRA,FERNANDO MENDES PEREIRA; USMAN,MUHAMMAD; MAYER,NEWTON ALEX; NACHTIGAL,JAIR COSTA; MAPHANGA,OSCAR RANNY MBONGENI; WILLEMSE,SALOMIE.
ABSTRACT Guava (Psidium guajava L.) can be propagated by seed, layering, air layering, grafting (budding or grafting), cuttings (root or shoot) or tissue culture. Propagation by seed is used for rootstock production and for raising populations for screening at early phases in the breeding programs. Vegetative propagation methods are used to clone selected genotypes from these programs and commercial orchards because it perpetuates all characteristics of each cultivar. This review addresses different methods that can be used to propagate guava, the methods commercially adopted and the progress obtained in recent years. There are several propagation technologies available, however, the adoption levels are rather different between producing countries. Needs...

ADVANCES IN PEACH, NECTARINE AND PLUM PROPAGATION Rev. Bras. Frutic.
MAYER,NEWTON ALEX; BIANCHI,VALMOR JOÃO; FELDBERG,NELSON PIRES; MORINI,STEFANO.
ABSTRACT Nursery trees of stone fruits (Prunus spp.) are traditionally produced by union of two distinct genotypes - the rootstock and the scion - which, by grafting, form a composite plant that will be maintained throughout of all plant life. In Brazil, the rootstocks are predominantly seed propagated and therefore usually results in heterogeneous trees for vigor and edaphic adaptation. However, with advances in rootstock breeding programs that released cultivars and certification in several countries (notably in Europe), the system will come gradually evolving for vegetative propagation (cuttings and tissue culture) and use of seeds of selected rootstocks with specific characteristics and potted nursery trees production. For scion cultivar propagation,...

Reinhardt,Domingo Haroldo R. C.; Bartholomew,Duane P.; Souza,Fernanda Vidigal Duarte; Carvalho,Ana Cristina Portugal Pinto de; Pádua,Tullio Raphael Pereira de; Junghans,Davi Theodoro; Matos,Aristoteles Pires de.
Abstract Pineapple is one of the most important fruits, with large production in tropical and subtropical regions and great appreciation by consumers all over the world. The pineapple plant has many specific morphological, anatomical and physiological characteristics that determine crucial aspects of pineapple crop management, such as flower induction, water use and vegetative methods of propagation. The use of sexual reproduction of pineapple is restricted to breeding purposes carried out by research institutes looking for new hybrids with improved agronomic characteristics. Seeds are only produced if cross pollination among varieties occurs. Commercially pineapple has to be propagated by vegetative material, an asexual reproduction, without new...

Advances in propagation of Ficus carica L. Rev. Bras. Frutic.
Boliani,Aparecida Conceição; Ferreira,Antonio Flávio Arruda; Monteiro,Laís Naiara Honorato; Silva,Marcela Sant’anna Cordeiro da; Rombola,Adamo Domenico.
Abstract Fig tree (Ficus carica L.) stands out due to its range of cultivation and easy adaptation to diverse edaphoclimatic conditions. In addition to its adaptability, fruits have nutraceutical characteristics and are used in industry and for fresh consumption, widely appreciated by the world cuisine. Due to lack of manpower and phytosanitary problems, the area planted in Brazil has decreased recently. To overcome these obstacles, the production of quality seedlings is the first step to obtaining productive and healthy orchards. Therefore, the aim of the present literature review was to gather data referring to advances in research related to the fig tree propagation. Currently, the methods found for fig tree propagation consist of seedling production,...

ADVANCES IN PROPAGATION OF GRAPEVINE IN THE WORLD Rev. Bras. Frutic.
GROHS,DANIEL SANTOS; ALMANÇA,MARCUS ANDRÉ KURTZ; FAJARDO,THOR VINICIUS MARTINS; HALLEEN,FRANCOIS; MIELE,ALBERTO.
ABSTRACT Grapevine production by classical grafting methods and in commercial scale emerged over 130 years. This system remained handmade until the mid-1950s, when the first international certification programs aimed at obtaining mother plants with high viral sanity emerged. The necessity to increase the scale of production on industrial model and plant material production based on minimum morphological standards appeared at the end of the 1960s. Along the 1970s, research unlocked knowledge on semi-automated grafting, process hygiene, use of plant growth regulators and understanding of physiological events of rootstock-scion compatibility, callus formation and rooting. So, until the mid-2000s, certification schemes and propagation processes advanced...

Advances in the propagation of acerola Rev. Bras. Frutic.
Ritzinger,Rogério; Ritzinger,Cecilia Helena Silvino Prata; Fonseca,Nelson; Machado,Cristina de Fátima.
Abstract The acerola tree (Malpighia emarginata Sessé &Moc. ex DC.) is a fruit species that has prospered in the Brazilian tropical regions, especially in the Northeast, thanks to the high content of vitamin C in the fruits, among other characteristics that make it attractive to the producer, such as early production. Although there is increasing demand for the product, the production of certified seedlings of good commercial varieties is still a barrier to further expansion of the crop. This review aims to present, in a comprehensive way, technical information on how the spread has been made since its introduction in the country, as well as innovations and advances. Traditionally, propagation is carried out through seeds, cuttings and by grafting on...

Advances in the propagation of Brazilian Cherry tree Rev. Bras. Frutic.
Silva,José Antonio Alberto da; Teixeira,Gustavo Henrique de Almeida; Citadin,Idemir; Wagner Júnior,Américo; Danner,Moeses Andrigo; Martins,Antonio Baldo Geraldo.
Abstratct Brazilian Cherry tree is a native fruit tree belonging to the Myrtaceae family, with ample adaptation to the different edaphoclimatic conditions of Brazil, which makes this fruit widely known. However, there are still few commercial orchards, which may soon be reversed, since studies have shown the benefits of the consumption of this fruit for human health, as well as the potentialities for industrial processing. Thus, Brazilian Cherry tree will no longer be a backyard plant and will be grown in commercial orchards, which demands the production of seedlings with genetic quality. Sexual propagation with the use of seeds should be replaced by asexual propagation by means of cutting, grafting, spreading and tissue culture. The grafting method has...

Advances in the propagation of Jabuticaba tree Rev. Bras. Frutic.
Silva,José Antonio Alberto da; Teixeira,Gustavo Henrique de Almeida; Martins,Antonio Baldo Geraldo; Citadin,Idemir; Wagner Júnior,Américo; Danner,Moeses Andrigo.
Abstract The Myrtaceae family has representatives spread worldwide, and Jabuticaba tree is an important species native to Brazil, which is grown not only in the backyards and domestic orchards, but also in commercial orchards, landscaping projects and in several tropical and subtropical countries. The propagation of this species in a sexual form or by seeds is simple and efficient, being able to reach 100%. However, long juvenile phase and genetic segregation have led to the search for methods that allow the propagation of selected trees and guarantee through their standardized and productive clones, fruit quality and fruiting precocity. Protocols for asexual propagation are still scarce, but they show efficient methods, making possible the commercial use...

Advances in the spread of vegetative blueberry Rev. Bras. Frutic.
Schuch,Márcia Wulff; Tomaz,Zeni Fonseca Pinto.
Abstract The lack of an efficient method of propagation in some cultivars makes it difficult to expand the blueberry culture. In Brazil, we still do not produce seedlings with needed quality and quantity to improve the sector. The cloning of the selected material through mini propagation and micro propagation is an alternative to increase the multiplication and rooting capacity of the blueberries. Allied to this, the use of cultivation system without soil for the development of cloned material facilitates the seedlings production. In addition, we can keep matrices in small spaces with the use of mini-gardens and clonal micro-gardens controlling climatic and nutritional factors. In the Laboratory of Fruit Plants Propagation, of the Phytotechnology...

Advances in vegetative propagation of Olive tree Rev. Bras. Frutic.
Schuch,Márcia Wulff; Tomaz,Zeni Fonseca Pinto; Casarin,Josiane Vergara; Moreira,Roseane Maidana; Silva,Jacqueline Barcelos da.
Abstract In Brazil, there is a growing interest in the crop of the olive tree, especially in those regions considered suitable for cultivation, where low temperatures occur between 8ºC and 10ºC in the period before flowering. The areas with these characteristics are located mainly in the South and Southeast regions of the country, characterized by a temperate climate in function of altitude, with the occurrence of natural vernalization. The propagation is an integral part of the production chain and the first step towards the implantation of the olive tree crop or renovation of the existing orchards. Obtaining quality seedlings, besides guaranteeing uniformity and reliable varietal origin, is a factor that influences the whole life of the orchard,...
